Little Brother

On Thanksgiving day, we ate at my mom's house in Oak Park.

My Grandma, Mom, Step-dad, little sister, little brother and I all sat down in the living room in front of the TV to eat our Thanksgiving meal. At the start of the the meal my little brother stood up with his plate and walked into the kitchen, by himself. He is 10 years old. I picked out his name when I was 12 and he was born.

"Brandon, where are you going?" we all asked.
"I'm going into the kitchen to eat by myself, because I don't feel comfortable with all of these people." And he did.
we all laughed.
"But Brandon we're your family!" we all said.
"He's weird. He's really weird." my mom said.

But I can't help but to love him.

thanksgiving

"Facebook is stupid. Those people on facebook are stupid. You know what they say on there? 'Did you go to the bathroom today? How many times did you go to the bathroom? Did you go number 1 or number 2?" - My Grandma

Matt Bower was right. She is a smart lady.

Yesterday

At the bus stop I talked with a family. The oldest daughter who is the same age as my little brother (10 years old) said this to me:
"you know how dogs die when they get sad?"
Yeah. I do.

birds

Yesterday after I got off the phone with Dennis a bird pooped in my hair. I thought of the time my Grandma told my cousin Andrew, when we were kids, that it means good luck after a bird had pooped on his head in front of her house.
The day before yesterday a hummingbird peed on my right arm while I was drinking tea. I guess I was lucky it didn't get in my tea.

little bus girl

I hate when parents are awful to their children. There was this mom on the bus tonight that kept snapping at her daughter. Yelling at her for no good reason. I wanted to give her the evil eye, maybe even say she's a horrible mother. It's a tough walk, keeping silent around bad parenting. But I was so proud of this little girl for being resilent.
"You're being a sourpuss."- the mom said.
"YOU'RE the Sourpuss." the tiny girl said back defending herself.
Her mom didn't say anything back. Kept being oblivious, casting off to others that she was indeed sober.
You go little girl.

Slacker

What's worse than being a slacker who doesn't get out of bed until 2pm? How about starting a fire in your hosts' kitchen. That's me, your good ol' guest.

coyote medicine

the coyotes were howling tonight at the ranch. the dogs were barking too, but they bark all of the time.

john, my friend's dad, and i stepped outside to see where they were. he told the dogs to shut up. the coyotes listened too. i asked him if he thinks they are close or in the creek.

"they're close. do you want to take the flashlight and go see them? they'll probably get you."
"Yeah!" I walk toward the flashlight. He backs up in the doorway, at first he is about to hand the flashlight over and then when I say "when I don't come back you'll know what happened" then he retreats.
"coyotes don't attack people, do they?" I ask.
No, I don't think they have.

the cream cheese lady

we waited for her mom to bring us a plastic knife to use to put cream cheese on our homemade cranberry muffins. Okay, it was from a box. But we still made them at home. Alright, Jordanne did most of the work and I ate the most muffins out of the three of us; Jo, me and her mom.Later we went and gleaned apples. I found a dollar while I walked with a bag full of apples. I walked like a pregnant woman.

da flow

when you are in the flow you run into people.
today at vons i ran into an old soccer coach, CHUMA.
"I always like to get people's phone numbers when I run into them. I run into people a lot. But I'm really bad at calling people. You know, the whole having friends thing." Chuma told me as he opened up his trunk to give me a framed picture of my stepdad and baby brother after a soccer game. The picture has to be at least 8 years old. He was waiting to run into my stepdad to give it to him.
